Identified Training Methods

Junior Development isn’t easy, mainly in part to youth requiring different prescriptions and treatment to an adult in maturity and physical capabilities. However, within the realm of junior development, the most rapid advances can be made, and if those windows of opportunities are capitalised on, then a young individual may reach levels which they dreamed of.

Furthermore, as all of you are aware some 12 year old’s look 16, and some 16 year old’s look 12. There in lies another complication of youth programming; as some training methods are suitable for developed teenagers, and others are more beneficial for those still yet to hit their strides. Here lies the problem, watered down adult programs, and training methods popular amongst adults may not be suitable for your child’s aspirations, nor their growth
development level. This is where we’re trying to make the biggest impact. To identify where youth are,
and not where they’re supposed to be.

Primordial Athlete Soup

Along with identifying an appropriate maturation level, detecting deficiencies and spotting advanced skill sets which are advantageous for performance and reductions in injuries will go a long way for your child to perform well in their chosen sport. At Athlete Origin, we recognise that asking youth to perform and be measured against adult testing batteries is in the same thought process as asking an 11 year old to sit the GAMSAT. So, although we believe that core competencies are still needed to be developed, fundamental performance indicators will differ between youth and adults.

Within the Athlete Origin Operation (AOO) we’ll develop
  • Coordination
  • Movement Literacy
  • Speed Mechanics
  • Strength & Power
  • Intentful Trainers
  • Autonomous Individuals

Continuing to pursue the best methods and assessment for youth development is at Athlete Origin’s core objectives. We will continue to pursue best practice not only from in-house research, but via assistance from both local and interstate University academic staff.

The Athlete Origin Operation.

To ensure the best environment is created for development, the following has been put in place not only to provide short term success, but also long term ambitions are fostered and realised.

Who Is It For?

We have designed the AOO for aspiring, enthusiastic and motivated youth athletes aged 10 – 18 years old. This is an exclusive facility, which only caters to youth, with the pathway vision in place, it is anticipated that those in the AOO will head into professional systems once leaving school.

How It Works

Prior to any programming or training, we conduct an initial consultation. This will help with deciding if the AOO is the right fit for the child and parents, and consists of gathering health and injury history, sporting background, and ascertaining the aspirations your son/daughter has. After gathering all the necessary information, we conduct a Performance Test which adheres to any current/past injury history.

The Performance Test combines tasks to measure anthropometrics, coordination in all directions, isolated limb/joint range of motions, power production capabilities via jumping, in addition to *muscular endurance assessments. These tests help gather a profile of how your child moves, and what qualities of performance they rely on to move optimally.

Weekday time slots in the AM are available for your child’s initial consultation.

It needs to be stated that no maximal strength testing will be conducted until both 1; your child is able to correctly perform the movement and 2; is at the appropriate age to be performing maximal strength tests. That’s why the initial assessments comprise of power capabilities and muscular endurance to establish their power/strength production qualities

The Fundamentals session will familiarise your son/daughter
with the order of operations and ensure they’re proficient at the basic movement patterns prior to going into the small group coaching.

Weekday time slots in the AM will be available to book in following the initial consultation.

The Athlete Origin Operation is small group coached with a 6:1 Athlete to Coach ratio. The  sessions will run for approximately 1 hour, with sessions running in the PM during the week and AM on Saturdays.

Training Groups will be split into age appropriate taking into consideration maturation levels.

To ensure progression, tracking of weekly training logs, and quarterly re-tests will be taken. Additionally, termly and yearly reports will be produced and provided to help aid in training directions and crucial conversations with coaches involved with your child’s sport.
